Waterville Public Library

Window to the World Book Challenge returns on 9/1/21!

Department: Children's Room

Preregister for the 2021-22 Window to the World Book Challenge, open to students in 4th through 6th grade! Beginning September 1, 2021, let's go exploring together!

What makes this different from a book club? Participants choose their own titles, write a book review, and earn virtual badges in Beanstack, our online data collection tool. When they complete a book from a world region, not only will they receive a digital badge but also a physical button to show their achievement! After all eight badges have been collected, participants can choose a prize from our book and prize list. All those who complete the challenge will be entered into a grand prize drawing for a 2022 summer pool pass to the Waterville City Pool!

There will not be virtual club meetings. This self-paced program may be repeated with new titles every academic school year from 4th through 6th grade.

Signing up for Beanstack is easy:

  1. Go to: https://watervillelibrary.beanstack.org/
  2. Create a user account and add reader accounts for each child participating.
  3. Log books read and activities done to unlock electronic badges and real prizes!

1000 Books Before Kindergarten is still ongoing!

Parents! If you read at least one book a day to your child from infancy through their toddler years, you will have read to them 1,095 books in three years, thereby setting them up for success when they enter into kindergarten. Part of Waterville Public Library's mission is to come alongside you and provide for your growing family titles, tracking, and rewards for this journey. It's as easy as downloading the Beanstack app on your mobile device and logging in the books that you read. Earn incentives for every 100 books read!
