Up in Waterville Public Library's Carnegie Art Gallery now: "Layered Perspective", a Liana Owad exhibition!
Artist Statement & Bio:
Pennsylvania born, Liana Owad is an artist working with traditional and contemporary mediums to create sculptures and works on paper. She is currently based in Waterville, Maine and is the sculpture studio technician at Maine College of Art. Owad received her MFA in 2014 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and her BFA in 2010 from Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. Owad is a strong advocate for the maker movement and has helped launch two maker spaces, Nebraska Innovation Studio, and the Chesapeake Arts Center MakerSpace. She has been an instructor in sculpture, drawing, and on the proper tool and equipment use at the university level and non-profit art centers. Owad has spent the past two years living and working in Okinawa, Japan.
The body of work in "Layer Perspective" is a selection of wood block prints made while living abroad. With these works Owad is exploring the domestic space and addresses the ideas of comfort and confinement in the home.
